Giorgio Armani’s Love Affair with Sport

The Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic at Hurlingham—traditionally held in the run-up to Wimbledon—has boasted some of the game’s biggest names. This year the field included the winningest Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic, top 10 ATP players Jack Draper, Holger Rune, Lorenzo Musetti and fan favorites Matteo Berrettini, Frances Tiafoe and Chris Eubanks, not to mention some legends of the game such as Feliciano Lopez, Mansour Bahrami and Mark Philippoussis.

Racquet was on the ground to capture some imagery from the historic Hurlingham Club, and the event embodied the spirit of Giorgio Armani, whose love of sport animates the storied fashion house.

“To me, sport is physicality: the construction of the body dominated by the mind and the will. A harmonious balance between thought and action. The vitality and spectacular ability to concentrate in order to summon up — right there, at that moment, for that hour — all the strength and intelligence needed to win.”

Now that tennis represents a broader purview, it churns out the same cheap tricks as the overstimulated ecosystem it dwells in: shock jockery, cash grabs, frenzied efforts for “engagement” that materialize as gauche emblems of brodernity. So I turn your attention, instead, to the real battle of the sexes: that women’s tennis is amply more exciting than men’s.

We Launched a Clubhouse

Just in time for the holidays, we are so thrilled to be opening our doors to the Racquet Clubhouse. In our hometown of New York City, there's only one club that offers best-in-class tennis, padel and squash—alongside a spa, juice and coffee bar: CityView Racquet Club. That's where we've launched our first IRL pro shop.
