We’re all Members of the Seaport Racquet Club

Thank you all for joining us at our inaugural Seaport Racquet Club coinciding with the last slam of the year. You made our Seaport Racquet Clubhouse New York City’s HQ for all things tennis—from on-court raves to player parties, live podcast tapings and plenty to watch, toast and shop.

Wait, you might be asking yourself, I don’t remember joining a fancy member’s club with everything from a full-size playable tennis court overlooking the water to a luxe lounge with screenings and snacks. The answer, of course, is that you didn’t—because you didn’t need to—Racquet brings you all these things (and more!) just by being a member of our community. That said, we wouldn’t mind if you subscribed to our annual membership, since it helps us bring you award-winning print magazines and invitations like this one to you throughout the year.

This guy won the US Open. Twice!

If this event is any indication, we’ve got only amazing things in store for the next. This year we kicked off the launch of Issue No. 27, and with it, the launch of a tennis-ball-themed edition of the GSCT by MSCHF, which appeared on the arms of your favorite tennis players—including one Stefanos Tsitsipas, who showed up in person to rock the bag to the sounds of DJ Puffie on our tennis-court dancefloor.

Babolat athletes Sofia Kenin, Carlos Alcaraz, Alex Michelsen, Cam Norrie, Felix Auger Aliassime, Jordan Thompson, Leylah Fernandez, Alex Eala, Valerie Glozman, Ethan Quinn and Eliot Spizzirri were among the stars of our 150th anniversary celebration.

We followed it up the next night with a who’s who affair in partnership with heritage brand Babolat, who celebrated 150 years in the business with appearances by Carlos Alcaraz, Sofia Kenin, Felix Auger Aliassime, Leylah Fernandez, Alex Michelsen, Lois Boisson, Jordan Thompson and Alex Eala, among others. Bites by STK, Dobel Ace Palomas, crisp pours of Heineken (and hydration stations by VOSS) kept everyone refreshed as the French touch sounds by DJ Etom kept the party going, and Racquet’s signature in-house tattoo studio inked permanent (and not-so permanent) custom designs on partygoers. Ink or it didn’t happen!

For the next ten days, Seaport Racquet Club held court: Unreal Snacks served up crave-worthy chocolates and a share-worthy photo experience, and our tennis court held dynamic programming—FP Movement and Grand Slam Champion Sloane Stephens hosted hits that blended styles and skills, and our friends at John McEnroe Tennis Academy and Babolat held clinics aimed at the younger gen of tennis players. Open play reigned as neighbors, friends (and probably some adversaries) faced off on our waterfront court.

Black Girls Tennis Club kicked off an hour of joy on-court with a similarly joyous happy hour fundraiser, featuring champion of our hearts Taylor Townsend rolling through. Live podcast tapings of the Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast, featuring Andrea Petkovic, and Tennis Insider Club featuring Caroline Garcia and Danielle Collins made for scintillating listens. The Clubhouse’s retail lounge was active day and evening, with a curated edit from FP Movement, apparel from new tennis lifestyle brand Valldoreix, skincare and beauty products by MALIN+GOETZ, stunning jewelry by The 1916 Company, which featured their new Aces by Paula Badosa line alongside Alex Crown, who took watch accessories to new heights with craftsman workshops aimed at timepiece aficionados.

Danielle Collins stopped by for a taping of the Tennis Insider Podcast with hosts Caroline Garcia and Borja Duran.

All this, and much more went down at Seaport Racquet Club, and we can’t wait to bring you the next one. A massive thank you to all who came out, and our partners who made it the only tennis activation that mattered—and as inaugural members, you’re now on the list. Watch this space, as we’re already cooking up what’s next! Members and all.

They just don’t make tennis merch like they used to, so we asked our favorite indie brands, resellers and stylish tennis friends (and fiends) where they find the best tennis apparel.

Men Have Already Lost the Battle of the Sexes

Now that tennis represents a broader purview, it churns out the same cheap tricks as the overstimulated ecosystem it dwells in: shock jockery, cash grabs, frenzied efforts for “engagement” that materialize as gauche emblems of brodernity. So I turn your attention, instead, to the real battle of the sexes: that women’s tennis is amply more exciting than men’s.

We Launched a Clubhouse

Just in time for the holidays, we are so thrilled to be opening our doors to the Racquet Clubhouse. In our hometown of New York City, there's only one club that offers best-in-class tennis, padel and squash—alongside a spa, juice and coffee bar: CityView Racquet Club. That's where we've launched our first IRL pro shop.
